May

A Time To Dream

In Malta

Anyone who’s recent travel plans have fallen like sand through fingertips, is hankering for this global pandemic to be water under the bridge – with a matter of urgency.  Here at Citrus Luxury we staunchly maintain our positive mantra of – Dream, Plan, Execute – because we know that travel-fever never dies and planes will once again take to the skies.

The virtual world has become even more indispensable with many of us working from home, thus having more time to conjure up our 1st post-COVID overseas escape. Therefore allow us to guide you through a typical day in the life of May when visiting Malta during this month.

What's on

Explore the Outdoors

May weather in Malta is perfect for being outdoors, the days are long and bright, and the sun is welcomingly warm and not overbearing. To connect with such fine elements, outdoorsy options are high on the agenda and recommended.

Whether you opt for a guided trek; combining historical, rural and coastal landscapes, or whether you crank up the fun factor with a motorised Segway tour, this is a truly grassroots way of introducing yourself to authentic Malta.

Enjoy a 5-star picnic on a rocky headland as you stop for a lunchtime break, then pop a bottle of bubbles while you digest the sweeping vistas of the north of Malta towards the sister island of Gozo in the distance.

Hotel of the Month

Palais Le Brun

Who wouldn’t wish to reside in an opulent 16th century Baroque palazzo? Well, while visiting Malta you can certainly call this grand abode your home-from-home.  With an illustrious history as the official residence of the valiant Knight Claude LeBrun, you too can enjoy lording about this unique boutique hotel – Palais Le Brun.

With May’s clement weather opt to book the luxurious hot tub suite and relish in your own private outdoor area. Also, take advantage of the hotel’s roof terrace that is perfect for cocktail-hour, then dine at the in-house restaurant that’s decked-out with an impressive walk-in wine vault. Situated in the capital city of Valletta, this is the ultimate place to discover the plethora of historic gems, a stones throw from the palace you call home.

Location of the Month

The Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto makes for a mesmerising outing to the south east coast of Malta, situated within the active fishing harbour of Wied iż-Żurrieq. Here you will hop aboard a traditional wooden fishing boat and glide along the jaw-dropping cliff face, feeling the fresh sea-air whip through your hair.

This exhilarating ride will lead you into nature’s wonders – rock caves that mirror the vivid water below creating hypnotic, shimmery blue shadows on the cave walls. Back on solid ground, dive into one of the local bars for a pre-lunch apéritif, then onto a pre-booked fish-speciality rooftop restaurant.

Spend the rest of the afternoon languidly gazing out at the vast Mediterranean vista, accessorised by the uninhabited island of Filfla for additional eye-candy viewing.

Restaurant of the Month

Bahia

The journey through the old, winding village streets of Lija – in order to arrive at Bahia restaurant, is actually part of the evening entertainment. You’ll swiftly realise these streets were built for horse-drawn carriages and not for cars.

Take your seat within the walls of this finely restored 200 year old townhouse cum modern bistro, where the eclectic menu will tease and tempt you into wanting one of each of everything listed. And that is why tasting menus were created – and you can find one at Bahia.

The a la carte menus change with the passing seasons, though freshly caught fish, locally reared meats and characterful vegetarian creations are all available
